Where I Stayed is a personal travel log. We built it to be as private as possible: no account, no backend, no tracking of who you are or where you go.
Orakawa Limited is incorporated in Hong Kong and is the data user (as defined under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, Cap. 486, Laws of Hong Kong, "PDPO") in respect of any personal data collected in connection with Where I Stayed.
Everything you enter — stays, places, dates, costs, notes — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you are signed in to iCloud, your data is also synced across your own devices via Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. Orakawa Limited never receives, stores, or has access to your stays data.
The app can request access to your device's location. Location is used only to help you find nearby places when adding a stay. It is never transmitted to our servers (we have none), never stored beyond the coordinates you choose to attach to a stay, and never used for advertising or profiling.
You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings without losing access to the app.
Where I Stayed uses PostHog for anonymous product analytics, hosted on EU-based infrastructure. PostHog collects:
All analytics are tied to a randomly generated anonymous ID, not to you, your Apple ID, or any personal information. We do not call any PostHog identity methods — there is no way to link analytics data back to a specific person.
We rely on our legitimate interest in improving the app as the legal basis for this processing. Analytics data is retained for 12 months, after which it is automatically deleted by PostHog. PostHog's privacy policy is available at posthog.com/privacy.
Subscription payments (Where I Stayed Pro) are processed by Apple via the App Store and managed by RevenueCat, Inc. Orakawa Limited does not receive or store your payment card details. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

We do not sell or share your personal data with any other third parties.
Data stored locally on your device is protected by iOS device encryption. Data synced to iCloud is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We do not operate servers that hold your stays data, which means there is no central database for that data to be compromised from. Anonymous analytics data is transmitted to PostHog over HTTPS.
Your stays data is stored on your device and in iCloud for as long as you use the app. Deleting the app removes local data from your device; iCloud data can be removed via iCloud settings. Anonymous PostHog analytics data is retained for 12 months. We do not retain any other personal data.
Under the PDPO, you have the right to request access to personal data held about you and to request correction of any inaccurate personal data. To make such a request, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 40 days as required by the PDPO. We may charge a reasonable fee for a data access request as permitted by law.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may also have the right to: request erasure of your personal data; object to or restrict processing; withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
Because we do not collect personal data that identifies you (no account, no name, no email), we may not be able to locate or retrieve data associated with you in response to a request. In that case we will explain this to you promptly.
Your stays are yours. You can export them at any time from Settings → Export Stay History. Deleting the app removes your local data from your device. iCloud data can be deleted via iCloud settings.
Where I Stayed is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance. For significant changes we will provide additional notice where practicable.
